The Germantown Animal Shelter is seeking an Animal Control Officer to assist in the care and treatment of impounded animals and the enforcement of the City’s animal control ordinance.
Essential Duties:
• Feed, water and care for impounded animals
• Clean and disinfect facility, animal cages, and other kennel equipment
• Capture unconfined animals, pick up confined animals and dead animals as necessary
• Enforce city codes & ordinances related to animal control
• Examine condition of animals brought into the shelter
• Provide assistance and information to customers wishing to adopt an animal
• Handle animal complaints and investigations
• Prepare operational reports
• Educate the public about responsible pet ownership and animal regulations and laws
Requirements:
• Knowledge of animal handling procedures
• Knowledge of habits and characteristics of large and small animals
• Ability to learn, interpret and enforce animal control codes, laws and regulations
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and the general public
• Skill in using computer and applicable software
• Passionate about the welfare of animals and the mission of the animal shelter
• A valid driver’s license
• Flexible to work on-call and weekends as assigned
• Valid driver’s license
Qualifications: Equivalency to high school education and at least six months experience in the care of and treatment of domestic animals. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
